I am a consultant working with organisations who are either software houses or businesss that use bespoke software to give their a competitive edge.

What I do

I work with clients who need more from their software and/or the organisation that creates that software.

Working with the wider organisation we work through how technical and non-technical staff are able to communicate more effectively, reducing misunderstandings and therefore waste.

Working with delivery teams we work through software and data architecture, tools and techniques to make software easier to build, maintain and enhance. Some require focus on cost savings others on time to market.

How I do it

My aim is to help the organisation get the most value from the work that software development and business teams do together working toward the goals of the organisation. This is achieved by building empathy, understanding and trust across business functions.

A common theme in my engagements is to work with teams to clarify the current situation. With the clarity gained identify the business and technical process in need of improvement.

Where improvements are required across the organisation we look at how the needs are translated into tasks and how they are measured. Current thinking recommends that business people become more aware of the aspects of software development allowing them to communicate more effectively with software development teams and development teams seek to understand business needs rather than being insulated from the business as can be the case.

Where improvements are required in the software itself we look at the team, the history of the product and skills and tools that are being used at present. Where issues are identified with the current environment I work with the team to start addressing those issues that will bring the greatest benefit to the team and the business.
